The Cougar Crest Trail is located north of Big Bear
Lake. Just west of the discovery center, there is a parking area that requires
an additional fee for a government issued Adventure Permit to visit our tax
maintained public lands. The good news is there is plenty of free parking just
outside the gate. The trail is marked and easy to follow with only a few steeper parts
that could cause problems for those not in good health. After about two miles
the trail connects with the Pacific Crest Trail that offers many great photo
opportunities, plus the road to Bertha's Peak leads to a place where you can see
fantastic views in all directions including the Mojave Desert on a clear day.
